Zout van de Wereld

Salts of the World

Jeroen van Wieren | 24,50 euro | 120 min | Dutch spoken
Voorstelling: Sunday 11 May 20:00 | De Grote Studio

Arguably the most used ingredient in the kitchen, added to nearly every dish, but yet hardly anyone gives the attention it deserves: salt. Of course, we are all familiar with the wonderful Himalayan salt, as well as coarse sea salt, but what's the difference compared with the oh-so-ordinary, JOZO salt? Do we really know what we are sprinkling on our food?

During the salt tasting workshop, you will learn things that you have never imagined; what kinds of salt exist? Where do they come from and how are they compared? The taste between salts from the mountains, and those from the sea? And also, how you can make your very own salt.

During this particular tasting, Jeroen van Wieren from the salt speciality store, Salsa Mentum in Amsterdam will share everything he knows about what is dear to him, salt. You'll have the opportunity to taste, feel and look at the versatility surrounding this humble seasoning.

Salt crystals in all sizes and colours will be presented, with the possibilities explained by salt-type. Because as you'll find out, the salt for on your egg is not necessarily the same as that used for a salt-crust in baking.

Do you want to know more about salt? We suggest you to watch the documentary My Name is Salt.
