Eastern Turkey is famous for its pure honey. The nectar comes only from wild mountain flowers and the native Caucasian bees are never given any sugar to increase production. But this bee and way of life are under threat from non-native species and over-commercialisation.

More and more colonies are disappearing and the beekeepers are worried. If the bees die, so does their way of life.

Kars Honey is a short documentary from the creators of the web series The Perennial Plate. Filmmaker Daniel Klein and his girlfriend Mirra Fine travel the world in search of stories about food. In their anthropological mini-documentaries, they explore culinary traditions and sustainable eating.

Kars Honey is part of the Hodgepodge shorts block and has been selected for the FFF Short Food Film Competition 2014.
