The famous culinary twins Jacques and Laurent Pourcel were inseparable. That was until they decided to conquer the world, 10,000 kilometres apart.

The world premiere of L'Universelle des Pourcel gives us peek into the kitchen of the famous Pourcel twins, both in France and Shanghai. Since the success of their first restaurant Le Jardin des Sens, opened in 1988 and awarded three Michelin stars between 1998 and 2006, the brothers have built an empire that spans the globe.

Jacques fell in love with China and was invited to cook at the World Expo in Shanghai in 2010. He devised a menu of French food with a twist to make it accessible to local palates.

Following this adventure, he stayed on in Shanghai and opened his own restaurant. Laurent remained in France, which took some getting used to. The brothers had been inseparable since birth. As Laurent himself says, "It’s a sort of osmosis.” They both decided to become chefs and have worked alongside each other almost ever since."You shouldn’t think locally or nationally, but globally,” says Laurent, an ambition that has pushed the brothers to their limits.

L'Universelle des Pourcel will be screened together with the documentary Inside the Best Restaurant in the World. On Sunday these films will be shown as part of a Golden Ticket lunch with the Pourcel brothers. Both screenings will be followed by a Q&A.
