As the title suggests, Inside the Best Restaurant in the World: El Celler de Can Roca gives us a peek into the lives of the three Roca brothers, who run the best restaurant in the world.

The documentary takes the viewer beyond the kitchen of El Celler de Can Roca and into the brothers’ past. They grew up among the pots and pans, sauces and soups of the restaurant run by their family for 30 years. This upbringing had an enormous influence on the boys and gave them the opportunity to realise their own dreams.

The brothers maintained the family business and tradition by opening a restaurant in a working-class suburb of Girona, their home. The differences between the brothers are reflected in the roles they play in the restaurant. Joan, the oldest, is the chef, Josep is the sommelier, and Jordi, the youngest, is the pastry chef. Together they embark on their culinary adventure, which doesn’t go quite as smoothly as planned: on opening night, the restaurant is empty. Fast forward to today, and their family dynamic and diverse skills have proven to be a winning formula. Besides a fully booked restaurant boasting three Michelin stars, the brothers now hold the prestigious title ‘Best Restaurant in the World’.

The documentary, which will have its Dutch premiere at the FFF, traces the brothers’ humble beginnings to their current success, and the pleasure they still derive from their craft. Joan’s daughter, in turn, also takes a peek into her daddy’s kitchen. Does she want to be a chef one day too? That still remains to be seen.

This film will be shown in combination with the film L'Universelle des Pourcel. On Sunday the screening of these films are part of a Golden Ticket lunch with the Pourcel brothers.

Both on Friday and Sunday the screening of the films will be followed by a Q&A session.

Inside the Best Restaurant of the World is selected for the FFF Feature Length Food Film Competition 2014.
