Something remarkable is happening in Peru. More than 80,000 young people have chosen to study gastronomy. In Perú Sabe we see how this mass move towards cooking is driving change in the Latin American country.

Ferran Adrià, former chef of the world-famous El Bulli, and Gaston Acurio, one of the most influential chefs in Latin America, travelled to Peru in search of the roots of Peruvian cuisine and an explanation for the sudden interest in cooking. Peru seems to have found the perfect recipe for fueling social and economic development; an engine that produces growers, chefs, entrepreneurs, restaurants and consumers.

The fish-rich sea, arid desert and verdant jungle make Peru a diversity paradise. Add an incredible wealth of cultural influences and you have a cuisine characterised by simplicity, freshness and tongue-tingling flavours.

The documentary visits Pachacútec, Gaston Acurio’s gastronomic institute. Although located in the middle of the desert, it attracts thousands of students eager to work on their own future and the future of Peru.

Want to know more about Peruvian cuisine and how to make the best recipes yourself? Join the Peruvian cooking workshop on Sunday 11 May.

Perú Sabe will have its Dutch premiere at the Food Film Festival.

NOTE: Originally there was a Q&A planned on Sunday, but unfortunately this has been cancelled.
