Food Film Talks

Food Film Talks

Talkshow | Froukje Jansen | 105 min | Dutch and English spoken
Voorstelling: Sunday 24 March 16:00 | Rabozaal (SK/3)

This is the part of the festival that film freaks won’t want to miss. Directors, cameramen, film experts and programmers will join presenter and actress Froukje Jansen at the dinner table. What does the consumption of food in films tell us? And how does a director gain access to the food industry?

We talk to filmmaker Remko Schnorr (cameraman for L’Amour des Moules) about capturing the beauty of a rather unphotogenic mollusc like the mussel. Anneloek Sollart (director of Rawer) and Bianca Tan (director of Johannes’ Kitchen) talk about what it was like to make films about prominent figures in the food world. We talk to programme maker Helen Westerik about the role of food in films. What does a bowl of fruit or a simmering pot on a fire symbolise cinematically? And Veronica Escuer from the Film and Cook Festival in Barcelona and Janno Lanjouw, the FFF’s head of programming, tells us how films are selected.

Film is a fantastic medium through which to educate people about where our food comes from, to tell a great story or to explain a problem. Savoury and unsavoury scenes are the starting point for every interview in Food Film Talks, and as the icing on the cake several filmmakers will explain their favourite food scene. Everything you ever wanted to know about film and food.
